Blauwstraat
In 1433 heette de straat Gasthuisstraat, naar het Gasthuis dat tot de 17e-eeuw was gevestigd in de Weeshuisgebouwen. In 1640 komt de naam ‘blauwpoortstraat’ in zwang naar de blauwstenen stadspoort. Na de aanleg van het Oranjebolwerk kwam deze poort in ongebruik doch bleef als ruïne tot laat in de 18e-eeuw staan. De naam Blauwstraat is dus een verkorting van Blauwpoortstraat.
